ILS Lunch Series: Dr. Abimbola, In-House Counsel

During the lunch, Dr. Funke Abimbola will give her keynote speech ("Climbing Mountains") which will be followed by a Q&A.

Dr. Abimbola is a UK-based lawyer, business leader and diversity campaigner.

She is currently General Counsel at Cycle Pharmaceuticals, a global pharmaceutical company based in Cambridge University, United Kingdom.

Prior to joining Cycle, Funke worked for Roche for 7 years, becoming General Counsel and Head of Financial Compliance. Roche is the world’s largest biotech company. Preceding her time at Roche, she was a corporate lawyer in private practice law firms for 12 years, working for both central London and regional UK law firms.

Alongside her full-time day job, she is a recognised diversity campaigner who is passionate about levelling the playing field and maximising potential. Her focus is on gender equality, race diversity and social mobility. She has received many awards for both her legal and diversity work.

In June 2017, she was awarded an MBE (Member of the Order of the British Empire) in Queen Elizabeth’s birthday honours list for services to diversity in the legal profession and to young people.

What's corporate compliance? What does human rights law have to do with business, and vice versa? Why should we care about global social compliance? Please join ILS at our final lunch series event, featuring Visiting Professor Kish Parella. Professor Parella studies international economic law and specializes in cross-border corporate governance—including corporate compliance with international human rights. She will be discussing her interests in the intersection of business and human rights and the value of studying this field of international law..
